Start your family's day off right with a wholesome, healthy breakfast that will keep them powered for hours! Need tips on how to make breakfast time more kid-friendly? We’re covering that too!
I never thought I would be so passionate about making breakfast every morning for my family. I grew up eating cereal every morning, and as far as I was aware, that was pretty standard for most of my friends as well.
I still have memories of being hungry by the second hour of my school day and how miserable it was. As an adult, it’s no surprise to me that my Crispy Rice cereal just wasn’t cuttin’ it 🙂
As my kids have entered school age, it has become even more important to me that they are starting their day with food that is healthy, wholesome, and FILLING.
Over the years I’ve learned that in order for my kids to start their day off nourished and ready to conquer their day, I also have to make breakfasts that are kid-friendly and “worth getting out of bed for.”
Overall, these recipes I selected are “kid-friendly” because they are simple, YUMMY, and made with ingredients that most kids are familiar with and accepting of.
TIPS FOR MAKING EASY, KID FRIENDLY BREAKFASTS
- PREP AHEAD: Many of these recipes can be prepped the night before so that your morning requires less than 5 minutes to throw breakfast in the Instant Pot and have it cooking while everyone gets ready.
- HANDS OFF BREAKFAST: Instead of standing over a griddle or stirring something on the stovetop, these recipes basically cook themselves inside the loving arms of your favorite kitchen appliance (the Instant Pot, of course). I think we can all agree this is a must on crazy mornings!
- MAKE THEM CUSTOMIZABLE: Kids are always happier to eat their own creation, so I love to offer blank canvas recipes like oatmeal and yogurt where they can add their own favorite toppings.
- HANDHELD BREAKFAST: I’ve noticed it’s not just toddlers that like a breakfast they can eat with their hands! Muffins, breakfast cake, and egg bites all get high praise simply for the fact that there are “no forks required”.
- FREEZABLE BREAKFAST: Many of the recipes here can be frozen so they are ready to serve after thawing in the fridge overnight or after a quick zap in the microwave. I tend to freeze any and all breakfast leftovers for this reason. Plus, they can also double as lunch box food!
