Give the gift of easy, care free mornings and a breakfast that will keep them going strong for hours. Pressure Cooker Steel Cut Oats in a Jar: just dump into the pot, add water, and breakfast will make itself!
If I had to pick the top 3 things that get made the most often in my pressure cookers, it would be Crio Bru, Yogurt, and Steel Cut Oats. Oats are my favorite thing to feed my family in the morning and they've made many appearances here on TIDBITS.

I grew up on microwavable packets of oatmeal and knew I needed to make steel cut oats just as handy and shelf stable.
Enter Freeze Dried Food! I've just recently started using the Thrive Brand of freeze dried food and it is insanely yummy! I think my daughter and I ate our way through 7 peaches worth of the crunchy, sweet, freeze dried version. My daughter has recently become very turned off to the texture of fruit, so belly ache aside, I was thrilled to see her enjoying the peaches so much!
I also love that it is just plain ol' fruit. Nothing fake, no sweeteners, just fruit as it should be and crunchified. I don't know exactly what they put in those oatmeal packets of my youth, but they don't hold a candle to these amazing freeze dried goodies.
And since they are shelf stable, it makes pre-made mixes of your favorite steel cut oats, sooooo incredibly easy to whip up. Dump it in the pot, add water, push some buttons and your work is done.
My favorite Thrive products are the peaches, blueberries, grapes (so good! It's like eating candy), and mangos. The Snackie section is amazing and great for taking in the car or putting in lunch boxes. My kids go bonkers over the yogurt bites. Really, I just want to try everything!
While we're talking favorite brands, my favorite steel cut oats brand is, and always will be, Bob's Red Mill. I love the people, I love their products, and I love that they have truly Gluten Free Oats for those that need them.
Along with being perfectly convenient for your own home, this cute Pressure Cooker Steel Cut Oats in a Jar makes an absolute perfect gift for the electric pressure cooker owners in your life! Steel Cut Oats are made to be cooked in a pressure cooker. It turns a time consuming stove top task, into the easiest breakfast you'll ever make!
Head to Thrive to load up on the best freeze dried fruit and veggies you will ever taste (think of the school lunch box potentials here!) then grab your Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats (widely available at your home town grocery stores), and throw together the quickest, easiest Christmas Gifts ever.
Keep in mind, this is an amazing make ahead breakfast for your own pantry's. I make up several bottles at a time so I can just dump them in my pot when I'm in a rush or need a morning nap (I'm a super early riser, morning naps are totally justified!)
While there are so many flavor potentials for these Steel Cut Oat Jars, my kids' favorites were Blueberry Lemon and Peaches and Cream. My husband's favorite will always be Carrot Cake and I was thrilled how well it worked with the freeze dried carrots! I loathe shredding carrots!
I'm still trying to come up with a cute line for the gift tag. Feel free to chime in.
STEEL thinking of you this Christmas and Always.

Do you think you could make this in the slow cooker? What might the directions be? I’d love to gift this to my neighbors, but I imagine some of them may not have an Instant Pot.

For some reason, I am suddenly unable to print any of your recipes like I have always done. When I click print like always, I get a blank page with “An Elite CafeMedia Food Publisher” at the top and nothing else. I have tried both Firefox, which I use all the time, and Safari. But neither one works. This has just happened since last week. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Marci says
Connie, I’m not sure, it’s working fine on my end. I’ll forward this question on to the girl that manages things behind the scenes and see if she knows.
Marlene says
OMG I have just discovered Thrive Life as well and was planning to add to all my oatmeal too!! Love the idea of doing these jars as gifts as well as food prep for myself. Thank you for all your awesome recipes!!
Marci says
Marlene, I LOVE thrive! And yes, I plan on making myself premixed baggies of it to have on hand. When I was testing this out, I loved that I could wake up, dump the jar contents in the pot, and DONE!
Donna says
What size jars would I use to make these individual servings, and then…..what would the proportions be? So I can do PIP? This sounds so fun to share with my daughters.
I truly enjoy your recipes, keep up the fun!
Marci says
Thank you Donna! If you want to do more of a single serving jar, check out the Mason Jar Steel Cut Oats link on this page. There are 2 posts on this. I would just leave out the water and instruct to add it before placing the jar in the pressure cooker. What a great idea!
Cathy says
My parents love Bob’s Red Mill steel cut oats, but they always prepare it on the stove. I’m printing this recipe to try it out for myself.
